At tomorrow's PLACE meeting Thursday Jan 17th, we will be electing our new PLACE officers.
Please come and nominate yourself, or others that you feel are qualified.
Will you be enrolled at EMU for both semesters next year?
Are you looking for a way to break into the professional world of planning?
Do you like to meet new students? Do you enjoy working with faculty?
We need dynamic leaders.... get involved and have fun!
The below job descriptions, upcoming events and other useful information are all posted on the
EMU PLACE board in Strong Hall.

President-
• Lead, organize and facilitate various club meetings with related duties. Empower individuals interested in being involved.
• Network and build relationships with various organizations and individuals inside and outside of the university.
• Represent, inform, advocate for the club to department faculty.
• Initiate tours and field trips (network with professional firms/organizations).
• Assist field trip coordinator in organizing and promoting events.
• Collaborate with club officers and student body for all decisions.
• Promote the club to all students in the URP and GIS program.
• Be available as the main contact person.
• Attend annual MAP Student Conference Meetings (should be on committee(s)).
• Attend as many field trips as possible.
Vice President-
• Attend monthly PLACE meetings.
• Assist President in organizing and facilitating meetings.
• Promote PLACE club to URP and GIS students.
• Attend annual MAP Student Conference Meetings (should be on committee)
• Attend as many field trips as possible and assist in transporting students.
• Attend any off campus meetings regarding the club when necessary.
• Responsible for annual fundraiser.
Web/Blog Communications Coordinator-
• Send weekly e-mails to students/PLACE members regarding upcoming events.
• Manage Blog: posting interesting planning related articles, on-off campus planning events, weekly meeting details.
• Attend as many field trips as possible.
Field Trip/Special Events Coordinator-
• Attend all field trips.
• Serve as the liaison between presenters, club, faculty and president.
• Provide transportation options for field trip attendees.
• Provide maps and directions to field trips.
• Provide days schedule for field trips.
• Promote, market all events through flyers, website and blog.
• Make necessary final arrangements and confirmations for field trips, report changes to those involved.
• Take photos at Events.
• Research and network for future educational opportunities.
Mentoring program coordinator-
• Network with professionals in order to create database of mentors.
• Network with students in order to create database of mentees.
• Promote program to URP and GIS students.
• Organizing “mixer” reception to honor mentors.
• Report interesting educational opportunities to events coordinator.
PLACE Journal Editor-
• Participate in field trips and events, take photos, collect responses and remarks from students, hosts and presenters.
• Encourage students to submit papers and articles
• Proof read, edit final versions
• Collect information regarding planning in the surrounding communities, and report in the journal.
• Post upcoming local, regional or national events.
• Attend meetings (report what was discussed )
