Please Leave Comments - Your Internship Experience

For those of you who've completed internships, or are currently in an internship - what has your experience been like so far? Would you recommend the experience to another student or has it not been a good experience? If it hasn't been a good experience, why is that?

Please leave comments to let others know about your experiences and vote on the poll in the sidebar to the right.

I've had a range of experiences, some good, some not.

The two best experiences that I had were working for a city. The first experience was unpaid, but I think I learned the most because I was able to just follow around the woman that I was working for and saw what she did - I didn't have to do any of the "busy work" that is normally associated with an internship.

My second internship I worked as a planning intern for a city. The position was paid, so I had to do a lot of mindless stuff, but I was still able to pick up a great deal by watching the other planners. As time went on I was also gradually given more responsibility.

Before either of these experiences, I had an internship in the transportation field that was HORRIBLE. The work, the office politics, the boss - all of it was bad, but also a learning experience.

I think an experience like that helps you spot a bad boss much sooner - like during the interview process so you'll a) know what you're dealing with or b) decide to work somewhere else.
